Odisha has 8,80,175 registered unemployed youth: Minister
Bhubaneswar: In Odisha, more than 8 lakh young people who registered with employment exchanges were still looking for work as of April.
The Minister of Skill Development and Technical Education, Pritiranjan Gharai, stated in a written response to a question posed by Congress MLA Santosh Singh Saluja in the Assembly on Tuesday that of the 8,80,175 unemployed youths who have registered with employment exchanges, 5,81,676 are men and 2,98,499 are women.
According to the ministry, the state's registered unemployed youngsters are listed below:
- 73,126 in the state employment exchange, Bhubaneswar
- 53,939 in Puri district employment exchange
- 50,778 in Rourkela district employment exchange
- 39,003 in Bargarh
- 36,711 in Cuttack
- 34,052 in Berhampur
- 6,642 in Berhampur University employment information and guidance bureau
- 1,534 in the special employment exchange for physical handicaps
- 58,701 in the special employment exchange for SC/ ST in Bhubaneswar.
12,948 engineering graduates and 34,379 diploma holders, according to the minister, have registered with various employment exchanges during the past five years. According to him, the central placement cell has hired 10,612 ITI pass-outs and 5,126 diploma holders, while 26 engineering graduates and 257 diploma holders found employment through employment exchanges.
Regarding the measures taken by the government to employ educated youths, the minister stated that the State Employment Mission was established in 2005–2006 to help unemployed youth develop their abilities. Engineering graduates receive a variety of skill development programmes, including soft skills, employability skills, and industrial training, he continued.
