Odisha CM Urged to Join NDA by Athawale

Bhubaneswar: Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha, was pushed on Monday by Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale to join the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre, which he claimed would further advance the state's development.

"The BJD has consistently backed the NDA administration as significant Bills have been passed in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Athawale stated this at a press conference in the capital of Odisha. "If Naveen Patnaik joins the BJP, it will further increase Odisha's development prospects by way of collecting additional funds from the Centre.

According to Athawale, the NDA will have a larger mandate after the elections in 2024.\

Inter-caste marriages ought to be encouraged on a larger scale, according to the Union minister, in order to bring about equality in society.

He claimed that while the Odisha government also has a similar programme, his ministry, through the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, was offering Rs 2.5 lakh for inter-caste weddings. However, he continued, it needed to be promoted on a larger scale.

Athawale claims that in Odisha in 2020–21, there were 1,847 intercaste marriages; in 2021–22, there were 2,428.

The minister provided information on atrocity incidents in the state, stating that 2,828 cases occurred in Odisha in 2020–21 and 2,768 cases occurred in 2021–22.

The minister stated that approximately 20 lakh Divyangs, old, and widows in Odisha were receiving pensions of Rs 500 per month when discussing the status of Divyangs, the elderly, and widows. "We need to improve the beneficiaries' pension amount," he stated.

Athawale also presented information on numerous federal programmes and the state of their implementation. According to data, over 46.25 crore accounts have been registered nationwide as part of the PM Jan-Dhan Yojana, while more than 1.91 crore accounts have been opened in Odisha.
