Berhampur: On Saturday night, two BJD leaders from Palajhadi village in Odisha's Ganjam district — Saroj Patra and Sudarshan Suar — were slain near their village in the Chasanimakhandi panchayat. The settlement is under the jurisdiction of the Digapahandi police station. The double murder is thought to be the result of political animosity.

Both were riding their bikes back to their village from Bhismagiri when they were ambushed by a gang of miscreants outside the village.

After a tractor driver found them, they were rushed to Digapahandi hospital. Sudarshan died in Digapahandi Hospital, while Saroj was sent to MKCG Hospital in Berhampur, where he died from his injuries.

The event is being investigated by the police. Due to the stressful circumstances, police have been deployed in the area to prevent any unfortunate incidents.

On Saturday, a meeting was conducted in Palajhadi village between groups of defeated and elected candidates in the just ended panchayat elections. According to sources, members of both parties had exchanged heated words over a number of subjects.
