A crane collapsed during construction work in Bhubaneswar, injuring one laborer.

A crane collapsed during the construction of a building at OMC colony area in Unit 8 of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. According to initial reports, one laborer was injured in the incident. The crane collapsed while lifting iron rods during the construction of three 10-story towers at OMC at around 10 am. The incident occurred while the roof-casting work was ongoing.

Allegations have been made that the construction site lacked proper safety measures and that laborers were not wearing necessary safety gear, including helmets.

Following the incident, there were purported attempts by senior officials to downplay the situation by claiming that no one was hurt. A senior manager has stated that the crane was under repair at the time of the incident and that work had been stopped, with only damaged items being removed. The manager further asserted that no one was in the vicinity when the incident occurred.

The official also confirmed that the area has been cordoned off, and the construction agency involved has been instructed to halt work. It was stated that the mishap was due to a mechanical issue with the crane. Additionally, a letter has been issued, and a committee has been established to address the situation.
