In an exhilarating experience, students and astronomy enthusiasts witnessed a rare celestial event in the early hours of Tuesday. For a brief period, comet C/2023 A3 was visible in the sky in some parts of the country, including Odisha. This rare phenomenon occurred after a gap of 80,000 years. In Bhubaneswar, photographer Rakesh Roul captured this celestial event on camera.

The comet could be viewed with common telescopes and binoculars. Importantly, the comet will be visible again between October 15 and October 20, and it is expected that it can be seen with the naked eye. On October 12, it will be closest to Earth, at a distance of 7 million kilometers.

On the evening of October 15, the comet can be seen about 16 degrees above the western horizon.
